It is the postural defect in which shoulders become round and sometime they are projected forward, i.e. shoulders are bent forward. The chin is downward and head is bent forward. This gives the sound shape of shoulder. The main causes of this deformity are : carrying overloaded school bag by children, wearing tight fitted clothes, weak muscles of chest and shoulder, wrong posture during reading or writing over chair or bed, etc. Corrective Measures : There are many types of asanas and exercises which can cure the postural deformity of Kyphosis and Round Shoulder. They are mostly backward bending asanas or exercises.
(a) Chakra Asana : In this, body is lifted up while hands and feet are on the surface.
(b) Dhanur Asana : From lying position the upper and lower body is raised up with support of hands. Body balances on the abdomen.
(c)Bhujang Asana : From prolying position the upper part of body is raised up while looking up.
(d) Ushtt Asana : From the position of Vajra asana body is bent backward while chest raised up. Hands hold the ankle while looking back.
(e) Backward Bending : All exercises of backward bending are helpful as corrective measure of Kyphosis like reverse sit-up; holding the hands at back and raising up; sit on chair; rest the back against it and pull the shoulders backward and look upward.
